Answer:

hard light is said to be when the source of light is smaller than the object on which it is been directed to while soft light is said to be when a source of light is larger in proportion to the object on which the light is directed too.

Explanation:

The intensity of a hard light can be altered by using a diffusion panel/fabric: this is done by keeping a fabric in between a hard light source and the object that is been pointed at, the hard light is now diffused ( softened ) by the panel therefore turning the panel/fabric into the new light source ( soft light ). and since the new light source is relatively larger than the object before it, the intensity of the hard light will now change to be that of a soft light.

soft light are always at distance closer to the object while hard lights are usually at a farther distance from the object been pointed at.
