Ronald Reagan was the last president to deal with the Soviet Union, as the regime ceased to exist during his second presidency. At the beginning of his government, Reagan was harsh towards the Soviets, employing a number of defense policies, economic policies, military policies and hard line rhetoric against the Soviet Union and Communism. However, over the course of his presidency, his approach became more cooperative.
