First you have to get the parentheses gone, to do that you have to distribute the 4 to the stuff in the parentheses. The equation would then be 4x-8-3=9. Then you can put together the -8 and the -3, so now the equation is 4x-11=9. Next, you have to get the -11 on the other side, to do that you have to do the opposite of -11 to both sides. so 4x-11+11 = 9+11, which you can simplify to 4x = 20  Divide both sides by 4 and x = 5

ANSWER: x=5
Hope this helped, feel free to ask more if you need more help(:

You distribute the 4 to the x and the -2. So the left side of the equation would look like 4x-8-3=9. Add 3 to both sides to get 4x-8=12. Add 8 to both sides and get 4x=20. Divide both sides by 4 and x =5

Determine whether the function below is an even function, an odd function, both, or neither.
Ad libitum [116K]
A function is even if, for each x in the domain of f, f (- x) = f (x). The even functions have reflective symmetry through the y-axis. A function is odd if, for each x in the domain of f, f (- x) = - f (x). The odd functions have rotational symmetry of 180º with respect to the origin.
 f (x) = (x + 5) ^ 2
 f (x) = x ^ 2 + 10x + 25
 f (-x) = (-x + 5) ^ 2
 f (x) = x ^ 2 - 10x + 25
the function does not comply with the definitions.
 The function is NOT even
 The function is not odd

True or false: the lateral surface of cone a is exactly 1/2 the lateral surface area of cylinder b
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

True

Step-by-step explanation:

We have that,

The cone A has the length of the lateral side = h and the height of the cylinder  B = h.

Since, the lateral surface areas are given by,

Lateral surface area of cone = \pi r\times l, where l is the length of the lateral side.

So, we get L_{A} = \pi r\times h.

Also, Lateral surface area of cylinder is 2\pi r\times h, where h is the height of the cylinder.

So, we get L_{B} = 2\pi r\times h

Thus, we see that, L_{A}=\frac{1}{2}\times L_{B}

Hence, the given statement is correct.
