find a counterexample to show that the following statment is false. if a number is multipled by itself, the result is even. choo
olya-2409 [2.1K]
A. Not a proper counterexample as 3 and 5 aren't the same number. We can rule out choice A.

B. We can rule out choice B since we're not multiplying here

C. We are multiplying the same value with itself but the result is even. We can rule this out.

D. This is a proper counter example. We have the same number (5) multiplied by itself leading to a result that is not even. It contradicts the initial claim.

Answer: Choice D

Researchers count 30 tagged zebras and 150 total zebras in an area of a game reserve. if researchers had previously tagged 80 to
algol13
About 400 zebras live at the game reserve.

The proportion would be
30/150 = 80/x

This is because 30 zebras are tagged out of 150 in one area. We know that they tagged 80 total zebras out of x total zebras.

To solve this, cross multiply:
x*30 = 150*80
30x = 12000

Divide both sides by 30:
30x/30 = 12000/30
x = 400

If 2/5 of a number is added to 1/3 of the same number ,the sum is 22. What is the number?
zubka84 [21]
2/5 x + 1/3 x = 22

First of all, I've been answering so many of these things lately that I'm
getting really tired of 'x'. Let's call the unknown number ' Q ' instead.

2/5 Q + 1/3 Q = 22

Multiply each side by 5 :

2Q + 5/3 Q = 110

Multiply each side by 3 :

6Q + 5Q = 330

Add the like terms on the left side:

11Q = 330

Divide each side by 11 :

Q = 30 .
