Suppose babies born after a gestation period of 32 to 35 weeks have a mean weight of 2500 grams and a standard deviation of 800

grams while babies born after a gestation period of 40 weeks have a mean weight of 2800 grams and a standard deviation of 425 grams. If a 33-week gestation period baby weighs 2600 grams and a 41-week gestation period baby weighs 2900 grams, find the corresponding z-scores. Answer:

Babies of 33 week weighs relatively less than the babies of 41 week.

Explanation:

Z score is determined by

=\frac{x-u}{SD}

A) For 33 Week baby

Given

Mean = 2500

SD= 800

x=2600

Z score is

\frac{2600-2500}{800} \\= 0.125

B) For 41 Week baby

Given

Mean = 2800

SD= 425

x=2900

Z score is

\frac{2900-2800}{425} \\= 0.235

The z score depicts that the baby of 33 week or 41 week weighs more than the normal babies of same age group.

Thus, babies of 33 week weighs relatively less than the babies of 41 week.

How does bacteria grow?
julia-pushkina [17]
 • The bacteria itself doesn't grow, but how many you end up with over time does. The "colony" grows, the group of bacteria.
 • Basically, a bacteria splits into 2, and then those split into 2, and so on.
 • This is called asexual reproduction.
 • Regular sexual reproduction involves 2 different partners, but a bacteria is basically cloning itself so it's genetically the same.
 • Bacteria grows asexually.

The atmosphere is 80% nitrogen: why do you think plants and animals can't use nitrogen as it is found in the atmosphere?
Setler [38]

Answer: Atmospheric Nitrogen is unreactive

Explanation:

The atmosphere is made up of about 80% Nitrogen, 16% oxygen, about 4% carbon dioxide, rare gases etc.

However, the 80% Nitrogen is highly unreactive, and needs to be trapped by competent micro organisms known as nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the root nodules of legumes.

Then, it is converted to several forms like nitrites, nitrates (easily absorbed by plants), ammonia and finally escape to the atmosphere again.

This brief illustration explains the NITROGEN CYCLE, and it is the only means by which plants and animals can use the highly unreactive nitrogen
