The Hellenistic era refers to the historical period from the 323 BC to 31 BC during which the Roman Empire emerged. This historical period is mainly recognized due to the influence Greeks have in part of Europe, Asia, and Africa and the advancements achieve in multiple areas including literature, art, music, mathematics and other sciences. This included the construction of the Library of Alexandria (a Greek polis) located in Egypt (Africa) from 285 to 246 during the reign of Ptolemy II. It is believed this library contained around 500,000 papyrus scrolls with works related to different areas and the advancements of the Greek civilization. The influence of the Hellenistic culture is immeasurable, how, somewhat later in Rome, as well as in Byzantium, even today. He built the largest library of the ancient world in Alexandria, with books, scrolls  works of art and science from the entire empire.
