Determine whether the integral is convergent or divergent. ∫[infinity] 2 e^−1/x / x^2 dx : O Convergent O divergent If it is con
monitta

Let f(x)=e^{-1/x}. Then f'(x)=\frac1{x^2}e^{-1/x}>0 for all x\ge2, so f is strictly increasing. As x\to\infty, e^{-1/x}\to e^0=1, so f is bounded above by 1. This is to say,

e^{-1/x}

and the integral of \frac1{x^2} converges over the same domain, so this integral must also converge by comparison.

We have, by setting y=-\frac1x,

\displaystyle\int_2^\infty\frac{e^{-1/x}}{x^2}\,\mathrm dx=\int_{-1/2}^0e^y\,\mathrm dy=e^0-e^{-1/2}=1-\frac1{\sqrt e}

Two towns, Ancaster and Dundas, are 4 km and 6 km, respectively, from an old railroad line that has been made into a bike trail.
serg [7]
Okay, so first you draw a picture and let x be the distance from point D to the rest stop. Then the distance from point  to the rest stop is  8 - x

You know that the length of the new trail is y + z, where y is the distance from Ancaster to the rest stop and z is the distance from Dundas to the rest stop.

Now by the Pythagorean theorem,  y^2 = 4^2 + x^2 and  z^2 = 6^2 + (8 - x) ^2

So take square roots of these, add them, and minimize.

Note: I am assuming the path is perfectly straight, otherwise this approach fails.

Answer:

- 2 - 5i

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

(4 + 2i) + (- 6 - 7i) ← remove the parenthesis

= 4 + 2i - 6 - 7i ← collect like terms

= - 2 - 5i

Answer:

12x^4-20x^2+32x=4x(3x^3-5x+8)

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Common Factors</u>

An algebraic expression that is formed by sums or subtractions of terms can be factored provided there are numeric or variable common factors in all the terms.

The following expression

Z=12x^4-20x^2+32x

Can be factored in the constants and in the variable x.

1. To find the common factor of the variable, we must locate if the variable is present in all terms. If so, we take the common factor as the variable with an exponent which is the lowest of all the exponents found throughout the different terms. In this case, the lowest exponent is x (exponent 1).

2. To find the common factors of the constants, we take all the coefficients:

12 - 20 - 32

and find the greatest common divisor of them, i.e. the greatest number all the given numbers can be divided by. This number is 4, since 12/4=3, 20/4=5 and 32/4=8

3. The factored expression is

Z=12x^4-20x^2+32x=4x(3x^3-5x+8)

\boxed{12x^4-20x^2+32x=4x(3x^3-5x+8)}
