Answer: The basic elements of music are

Sound (overtone, timbre, pitch, amplitude, duration)

Melody.

Harmony.

Rhythm.

Texture.

Structure/form.

Expression (dynamics, tempo, articulation)

Western music uses 12 pitches

Rhythm is important to music because it keeps a song moving along, it gives motion. It can also help make a song feel slower or faster than it's actual pulse, or create a sense of groove. Sometimes alternating rhythms are used for dramatic effect.

The four dynamic markings youll find in a piece of music is piano, mezzo piano, mezzo forte and forte.
