What did people in the south that didn't own slaves think about slavery?

That could go both ways, maybe they didnt own a plantation or have use for a slave. But they still could support it. Or, they could be completely against it, and think its completely wrong and dehumanizing, they could help runaway slaves get to the north.

In my opinion, after examining the documents, I believe that it is the governments job to help American citizen during an economic crisis. The reason so is because when you look at how we got out of economic recessions and depressions it was by the government. FDR implemented government programs like social security and helped to pull America out of the great depression. If it wasn't for a government entity we might have never fully recovered and not have had the great boom of the 50s.
