In 1900, there was an Olympic underwater swimming event. The score was calculated by giving one point for each second the swimme

r stayed under water and two points for each meter that the swimmer traveled. Charles de Vendeville from France earned a gold medal by staying under water 68.4 seconds while traveling 60.2 meters. How many points did Charles de Vendeville earn to place first? Express the answer to the nearest tenth of a point.

The points for the swimming event are calculated as :one point for each second the swimmer stayed under water and two points for each meter that the swimmer traveled.

Charles de Vendeville stayed under water for 68.4 seconds.

Points earned for staying under water = 68.4 (1)= 68.4

Vendeville from France travelled 60.2 meters

Points earned for traveling 60.2 meters = 60.2(2)= 120.4

Total points earned = 68.4+120.4=188.8

68.4*1= 68.4   60.2*2= 120.4   68.4+120.4=    188.8

Water is leaking out of an inverted conical tank at a rate of 6800.0 cubic centimeters per min at the same time that water is be
m_a_m_a [10]

Answer:

6.82 mt^3/min

Step-by-step explanation:

By congruence of triangles, the radius r of the cone base when its height is 1 meter satisfies the relation

r/1 = 2.5/6

(See picture attached)

So, r = 0.4166 meters when the water is 1 meter high.

The volume of a cone with radius of the base = R is given by

V=\frac{\pi R^2h}{3}

So, the volume of water when it is 1 meter high is

V=\frac{\pi* 0.(4166)^2}{3}=0.1817\;mt^3

One minute later, the height of the water is 1 meter + 30 centimeters = 1.30 mt

The radius now satisfies

r/1.3 = 2.5/6

and now the radius of the base is

r = 0.5416 mt

and the new volume of water is 0.3071\;mt^3

So, the water is raising at a speed of

0.3071-0.1871 = 0.12 mt^3/min

This speed equals the difference between the water being pumped and the water leaking,

So,

0.12 = Speed of water being pumped -6.8

and

Speed of water being pumped = 6.8+0.12 = 6.82 mt^3/min

The value of m in the following system of equations is:
Andrews [41]
N=m-2

m-2n=8, using n from above in this equation yields:

m-2(m-2)=8  perform indicated multiplication

m-2m+4=8 combine like terms on left side

-m+4=8 subtract 4 from both sides

-m=4 divide both sides by -1

m=-4

So the correct answer is A) m=-4
