Islam did not forbid contact with other cultures. If they had done so, this would have discouraged a flow of information and science.

I should know I live in Riyadh and I am a Muslim :)

Information: science is an interdisciplinary science primarily concerned with the collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information.
