When scientists find fossils they can compare the location of that particular find to another similar fossil to see what the fossil might have used as a habitat or what it could have eaten. Then they can figure out how old that fossil is to tell how long the environment has been around, when the particular species formed, how old the particular species is, and what caused the species to die whether it be from another animal or something as simple as a fire. No one who in lived in the dinosaur era who lives today, so all we have use fossils and bones to give us explanations to different natural occurrences.
