In much of the territory formerly occupied by the Antigonid Kingdom, modern states of Turkey, Syria, and a small part of modern Greece emerged. This area was where Macedonia was, being a Hellenistic dynasty, takes its name by Antígono, who in the distribution of the kingdom of Alexander the Great, after his death, Antígono was named the ruler of Macedonia (fatherland of the family of Alexander the Great and of many of his generals) and the said kingdom.
