How to solve math problems with rules of exponents?

Mathematics
1 answer:
V125BC [204]3 years ago

You have to multiply that number by the number of the exponent

for example: 3^2 the answer would be 9 because it has to be 3 times 3

another example is 6^3 it would be 6 times 6 times 6 and that would be 216

Roberto needs some roofing tiles to be cut from a large tile. How many tiles that are each 14 3/8 inches in length can he cut fr
ratelena [41]

Answer:

6 tiles.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given that Roberto needs some roofing tiles to be cut from a large tile.

Let us find the number of tiles that can be cut from a larger piece of tile.

\text{Tiles can be cut from large piece}=\frac{\text{length of large tile}}{\text{length of each small tile}}

Let us convert our given mixed fractions in improper fractions.

14\frac{3}{8}=\frac{115}{8}

100\frac{3}{8}=\frac{803}{8}

Now let us substitute our given values in above formula.

\text{Tiles can be cut from large piece}=\frac{803}{8}\div\frac{115}{8}

Since we know that dividing a fraction by a fraction is same as multiplying the reciprocal of second fraction with the first fraction.

\text{Tiles can be cut from large piece}=\frac{803}{8}\times\frac{8}{115}

Upon cancelling out 8 from numerator and denominator we will get,

\text{Tiles can be cut from large piece}=\frac{803}{115}

\text{Tiles can be cut from large piece}=6.9826086956521739

We can see that number of tiles turns out to be 6.98, although it is very close to 7, but we cannot round our answer because the 7th tile will still be shorter than the required measure. Therefore, we can only cut 6 tiles of the required size from the given large tile.

Which situations are modeled by linear functionspt.1
nevsk [136]

<u>Answer:</u>

A. Nicole's hair grows at a rate of 1/2 in. per month.

B. Julian adds 5 laps to his swimming routine every week.

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

We are given a number of situations and we are to figure out whether which of them can be modeled by a linear function.

To begin with, I would like to define in simple words what a linear function is.

A function which which produces a straight line graph is said to be a linear function.

Here, the following two situations can be modeled by linear function:

A. Nicole's hair grows at a rate of 1/2 in. per month.

B. Julian adds 5 laps to his swimming routine every week.

1. M is the midpoint of LN and O is the midpoint of NP.
Reptile [31]
1. M is the midpoint of LN and O is the midpoint of NP. This makes the triangle MNO equal to half of LNP. Then you can get this equation
MO= (1/2) LP

If you insert MO = 2x +6 and LP = 8x – 20 the calculation would be:
2x+6= (1/2)( 8x-20)
2x+6= 4x-10
2x-4x= -10 - 6
-2x= -16
x=8

2. Centroid is the point that intersects with three median lines of the triangle. The centroid should divide the median lines into 1:2 ratio. In AC lines, A located in the base so A.F:FC would be 1:2

Then, the answer would be:
A.F= 1/(1+2) * AC
A.F= 1/3 * 12= 4

FC= 2/(1+2) * AC
FC= 2/3 * 12= 8

3. Since
∠BAD=∠DAC
∠ABD=∠ACD
AD=AD
The triangle ABD and ACD are similar. You can get this equation
BD=DC
x+8= 3x+12
x-3x= 12-8
-2x=4
x=-2

DC=3x+12= 3(-2) +12= 6

4. Orthocenter made by intersection of triangle altitude
A
BC lines slope would be (-4)-(-1)/1-4= -3/-3= 1. The altitude line slope would be -1, the function would be:
y=-x +a
0= 1+a
a=-1
y=-x-1
B
AC lines slope would be (-4)-(-1)/1-0= -3. The altitude line slope would be 1/3, the function would be:
y=1/3x+a
-1=1/3(4)+a
a=-7/3
y=1/3x - 7/3

C
BC lines slope would be (-1)-(-1)/4 = 0/4.
The line would be
0=x+a
a=-1
0=x-1
x=1

y=-x-1 = 1/3x-7/3
-x-(1/3x)=-7/3 +1
-4/3x= -4/3
x=1

y=-x-1
y=-1-1= -2
The orthocenter would be (1,-2)

5.
a. Circumcenter: the intersection of perpendicular bisector lines<span>
b. Incenter: the intersection of bisector lines
c. Centroid: </span>the intersection of median lines<span>
d. Orthocenter: </span>the intersection of altitude lines
