I take my time getting to the park on May Day because the track meet is the last thing on the program. The biggest thing on the

program is the May Pole dancing, which I can do without, thank you, even if my mother thinks it's a shame I don't take part and act like a girl for a change. You'd think my mother'd be grateful not to have to make me a white organdy dress with a big satin sash and buy me new white baby-doll shoes that can't be taken out of the box till the big day. What conclusion can you draw about the narrator from her voice in this passage?

I believe that the narrator is annoyed. She doesn't really like May Day, and is relieved she doesn't have to be a part of it. However, her mom still wants her too.

Which sentence from the novel best reflects the story's gothic nature?
Oduvanchick [21]

The correct answer is B. I kept my workshop of filthy creation; my eyeballs were starting from their sockets in attending to the details of my employment (38).

When it comes to Gothic stories, most of them are rather dark, mysterious, eerie, gloomy, scary, etc. Option B depicts such a mood perfectly - by mentioning things such as filthy creation, eyeballs starting from their sockets, etc. the mood characteristic of Gothic novels and stories is perfectly captured.
