"Very good." Father took the card and put it carefully away in his pocket. "Did you see that demon's face, Moon Shadow? He was s

urprised when I fixed his carriage. Machines aren't all bad. Some of them may be the true magic. We might not be able to speak too well with the demons, but in machines there's a language common to us all. You don't have to worry about your accent when you're talking about numbers and diagrams."
I was getting excited. "Maybe the Dragon King was right. Maybe the magic takes a different form in our land. Maybe that's why you don't need words for it."

Father wiped his hands on an old rag in the back of the wagon. Then he held up his hands. He had not been able to get off all the oil, for the lines of his hands were still black.

"Well, you know, repairing the horseless carriage was a lot like healing the Dragon King. My hands just seemed to know what to do."

In this passage, what revelation do the narrator and his father have about the setting?

that the Americans may not be demons after all
that magic is more important than modern machinery
that a common language is not always necessary for communication
that it will be difficult to find a common ground with the Americans

Answer:

Revelation that the narrator and his father have about the setting is Option C: that a common language is not always necessary for communication

Explanation:

'Dragonwings' by 'Laurence Yep', is a story about Moon Shadow who is trying to adjust with his new life in America. He gets to know abut the racism they face and fears about it. Even he experienced  hostility from whites. They are referred as white demons of San Francisco.

In the given excerpt, father and son are having a conversation about language. He said that demons may not speak the language they speak but still one can communicate. This is because there is always a common language which helps communicate people. No one has to worry about accent as numbers and diagrams are being discussed with the machines. Thus, statement C is most appropriate.

OleMash [197]

Answer:

In the first part

"Dear future me,

This is what I want you to know

You used to always cover things up

But now the world's gonna know"

Maybe change the last know (bolded) to "be aware", "realize", or "see"

Explanation:

It sounds repetative. Despite that, very good poem! :)

Read John Muir's "Calypso Borealis" and answer the question.
lidiya [134]

Answer:

C) Experience

Explanation:

This is certainly a hard question, because the passage leads us to believe that Muir is struggling through nature, with lines like "struggling through tangled dropping branches," and "I began to fear that I would not be able to reach dry ground."

However, he begins by joyfully describing nature, and doesn't regret the journey when he finds this flower that made "the impression of the utmost simple purity like a snowflower."

Muir would not have found this flower had he not experience nature.
