Hi there!

Let th' two number be ' a ' and ' b ' [ a > b ]

According to th' question :-

→ The largest of two numbers is 12 more than the smaller number.

a = 12 + b ---(i)

→ Sum of the two numbers is 74.

a + b = 74

b = 74 - a ---(ii)

Substitute th' value of ' b in Eqn. :-

a = 12 + (74 - a)

a = 86 - a

a + a = 86

2a = 86

a = \dfrac {86}{2} = 43

Now,
Substitute th' value of ' a ' in Eqn. (ii)

b = 74 - b

b = 74 - 43

b = 31

Hence,
The required answer is :-

• The smaller number is 31
• The largest number is 43

~ Hope it helps!

You can set up to solve this problem by creating 2 equations
x= larger number
y= smaller number

x = 12 + y (larger # = 12 more than the smaller #)
74 = x + y( the sum of the two numbers is 74)

you can use more than one method to go about solving this but I'm going to eliminate one of the variables

to do this, I am going to multiply the first equation by -1

-1(x = 12 + y)
-x = -12 - y

now you add the two equations together so that the -y and y cancel out

-x = -12 -y
74 = x + y

once added the sum will be

74 - x = -12 + x

now solve for x

74 = -12 + 2x
86 = 2x
x = 43

the larger number is x (43) so now you can plug in x into either equation and solve for y

43 + y = 74
y = 31
31 is the smaller number

to make sure this is correct you can plug both numbers into the eqations
43 + 31 = 74
31 + 12 = 43

hope this helped!

Let f(x) = -3x + 2 and g(x) - 4x + 6. Find (f•g)(-5).
mezya [45]

Answer:

(f•g)(-5) = -238

Step-by-step explanation:

We have that:

f(x) = -3x + 2

g(x) = 4x + 6

Find (f•g)(-5).

First we find (f.g)(x)

So

f(x)*g(x) = (-3x + 2)*(4x + 6) = -12x² -10x + 12

When x = -5

-12(-5)² - 10(-5) + 12 = -238

(f•g)(-5) = -238

What is the length of missing side JK? Round Answer to nearest tenth please.
zvonat [6]

Given:

Triangle LJK.

LJ = 89 in, LK = 28 in and m∠L = 42°

To find:

The length of missing side JK.

Solution:

LJ = k = 89

LK = j = 28

JK = l = ?

Using law of cosine:

l^{2}=j^{2}+k^{2}-2 jk \cdot \cos L

Substitute the given values.

l^{2}=28^{2}+89^{2}-2 \cdot 28 \cdot 89 \cdot \cos 42^\circ

l^{2}=784+7921-4984 \cdot (0.7)

l^{2}=784+7921-4984 \cdot (0.7431)

l^{2}=784+7921-3703.6

l^{2}=5001.4

Taking square root on both sides.

l=70.7

The length of the missing side is 70.7 in.

Solve the Equation.
IgorLugansk [536]
<h2>1.</h2>

Firstly, combine like terms: 7r-8=10+r

Next, subtract r on both sides of the equation: 6r-8=10

Next, add 8 onto both sides of the equation: 6r=18

Lastly, divide both sides by 6 and <em><u>your answer will be r = 3.</u></em>

<h2>2.</h2>

Firstly, multiply both sides by e: TE=3u

Lastly, divide both sides by 3, and <em><u>your answer will be \frac{TE}{3}=u</u></em>
