In an analogy, three ways that cells are similar to organisms are:

(1) Ability to reproduce
(2) Respiration
(3) Digestion and excretion

First, the cells have an ability to reproduce or divide (cell division or mitosis). Cell division is a process when a parent cell produces two identical daughter cells. This is similar to organisms as organisms also has the capability to reproduce either sexually or asexually.

Second, there is the function of the cells called cellular respiration. This is when the cells use oxygen to use glucose or fats for energy and release carbon dioxide as a waste product. Organisms breathe in and use oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.

Lastly, cells perform endocytosis and exocytosis. Cells can take in solutes bulk transportation (endocytosis) similar to organisms eating food. Cells also release hormones, enzymes, or waste products in bulk through the process called exocytosis, which is similar when organisms excrete waste.
