Edward l. Thorndike proposed the law of effect, which is a cornerstone principle for operant conditioning. The law of effect states that responses followed by a satisfying outcome are more likely to be repeated,
while responses followed by unpleasant outcomes are less likely to be repeated. This is making this law the principle of operant conditioning , which is a learning process in which behavior is shaped and maintained by consequences (rewards or <span>punishments) that follow a response. </span>
