A ball thrown upward and outward from a height of 6 feet. The height of the ball, f(x), in feet can be modelded by f(x)= -0.8x^2

+ 3.2x + 6, where x is the ball's horizontal distance, from where it was thrown.
a. what is the maximum height of the ball?
b. How far from where it was thrown does this height occur?
c. How far does the ball travel horizontally before hitting the ground? Round to the nearest tenth.

A. Convert to vertex form:-

= -0.8(x^2 - 4x) + 6

 = -0.8 ((x - 2)^2 - 4)) + 6

= -0.8(x - 2)^2 + 9.2

Maximum height of the ball is 9.2 feet Answer

b. horizontal distance at this height = 2 feet. Answer

c. this distance will be the positive root of f(x) = 0

-0.8(x - 2)^2 = -9.2

(x - 2)^2 = 11.5

xi-2 = sqrt 11.5 = 3.39

required distance = 5.39 = 5.5 feet answer

Find x, if the perimeter is 106
3x+6
2x-3
slega [8]
So we are given that the perimeter is 106 and two problems to solve
we will write this as an equation
106 = 3x + 6
we will subtract 6 from both sides
100 = 3x
now divide by 3 to isolate the variable
we will get 33 1/3 as the x

for the second one
106 = 2x - 3
add three to both sides
109 = 2x
divide by 2 to isolate the variable
we will get 54 1/2 as the x

Hope this helps :)

Find the lateral area of the regular prism with height h, if the base of the prism is: d Regular pentagon with the side 6 cm and
Aloiza [94]

Answer:

The lateral area of the regular prism is 450\ cm^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The lateral area of the regular prism is equal to

LA=Ph

where

P is the perimeter of the base

h is the height of the prism

Find the perimeter of base P

P=5(6)=30\ cm -----> the regular pentagon has 5 equal sides

we have

h=15\ cm

substitute in the formula

LA=30(15)=450\ cm^{2}

a can of vegetable soup cost $2.88 for 12 oz a can of chicken soup cost $2.25 for 9 oz which kind of soup cost less
Tamiku [17]

Answer:

Vegetable soup costs less because it's only $0.24/oz while chicken soup costs $0.25/oz.

Step-by-step explanation:

Vegetable = $2.88/12 = $0.24/per 1 oz

Chicken = $2.25/9 = $0.25/per 1 oz
