A. The Red Scare

Communists were associated with the color red because of the red flag of the Soviet Union -- thus the "Red Scare." One manifestation of the Red Scare was how people's privacy was invaded. Accusations about communists and communist sympathizers were aimed at all sorts of people. Many people in the Hollywood film industry were targeted during that time, for instance. But defenders of freedom (including film and television people) fought back against that. Those who aimed to protect the rights and liberties of each individual saw the Red Scare tactics as "witch hunts," where we suspect our neighbors of evil for no good reason.

Speaking of "witch hunts," the playwright Arthur Miller wrote a really powerful play in 1953, during the Cold War, which focused on the Salem witch trials. He was making the point that what was happening in the Red Scare (hunting for communists) was another manifestation of the witch-burning craze that had happened at a previous time in history.

In what practical way did war bonds benefit citizens who purchased them? The military did not draft anyone who bought bonds. Bon
Gnoma [55]

The correct statement is," Bonds benefited the citizens who purchased them in a way that the government repaid the bond purchasers with interest." The correct option is D.

Bonds are such securities issued by the government or any other body to procure or raise funds, and interest is payable on them at a predetermined fixed interest rate.

Bond instruments

 • Bonds are an instrument issued by a borrower to the public who subscribe to them as a token of proof that the borrower has raised such amount from the investor, payable at a fixed time period.

 • Bonds generally are beneficial as they are comparatively secured investments than the equities and debts and give more interest than any bank deposits or saving accounts.

 • Bonds may be issued by a Government or any other corporate body to raise funds for a specific purpose, which is payable at a fixed rate of interest predetermined at the time of issue of such securities.

Hence, the correct option is D that the government benefits the purchaser of bonds in the way of repaying such bonds with interests to its subscribers.

Why did peace negotiations break down after the Oslo accords?
Elanso [62]
The Oslo Accords simply did not take into account factors that would influence its interpretation. For example, the Cave of the Patriarchs massacre, in which at least 39 Palestinians were killed by a single Israeli gunman (who was beaten to death once he run out of ammunition), is often blamed for undermining Palestinian trust in the process. Similarly, the expansion of Israeli settlements (although the Oslo agreements, sillily enough, stipulated no such ban) and blockades caused the deterioration of economic conditions, and much frustration for Palestinians. These factors caused a drop in support for the accord and for those who supported it. However, the PA acknowledges that the settlements have actually provided 12,000 temporary jobs to Palestinian construction workers.
And on the Israeli side, the increase in terror attacks and refusal of the insurgency groups such as Hamas to respect the Oslo agreements caused much frustration for Israelis who lost faith in the Accords as well
