Concessions were offered from 32.5 to 65 ha (80 to 160 acres) to each Indian head of household, although the effective title was reserved for 25 years, as a precaution against selling to speculators.The unthinkable consequences of the law were the weakening of the tribal structure, the inability of many nomadic Indians to adapt to an agrarian life and, in the reserves, poverty, illnesses and dejection. By virtue of the provision that allowed the public sale of all land "left over from the reserves, in 1932 the whites had already acquired two thirds of the land of the Indians
