A statistics student would like to estimate the average age of students at her college. she would like to be 85% confident that

her estimate includes the actual college population mean. she did a smaller preliminary survey and found that a reasonable estimate of the population standard deviation was 4 1/2 years. how many people must she survey if she wants to be within 1/2 year of the true population mean? please round off your answer to the nearest integrer.

A statistics student would like to estimate the average age of students at her college. she would like to be 85% confident that her estimate includes the actual college population mean

It means confidence level is 0.85.

After taking survey the estimate of population standard deviation is found as 4.5 years. The given margin of error is 0.5 years

The sample size is obtained using formula

n= (\frac{z_{\alpha/2} std}{ME} )^{2}

Where std = standard deviation

alpha = 1 -c = 1-0.85 = 0.15

z(α/2) = z(0.15/2) = z(0.075)

It is the critical value of z such that area above z and below -z is 0.075

Use z score table to find the probability exactly or very close to 0.075 and note the corresponding z score value.

In z score table there is no accurate 0.075 probability value. The close value is 0.0749 which corresponds to z score -1.44

For calculation we take positive z score value.

So we get z(α/2) =1.44

Using all the given values into formula

n = [(1.44 * 4.5) / 0.5]^2

n = 167.96

Rounding it to nearest integer we get n=168

The number of people need to surveyed is n=168

1. Find the vertex of the following: y = (x - 4)(x - 10) *
horsena [70]

Answer:

1. (7,-9)

2. (4,0) and (10,0)

3. (3,0) and (-3,0)

4. (0,-9)

5. (-1,-32)

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the vertex use the formula

\frac{-b}{2a}

First make the equation into a quadratic equation.

(x-4)(x-10)\\x^{2} -10x-4x+40\\x^{2} -14x+40

Now it is in the form

ax^{2} +bx+c=0

Now we can substitute the values

\frac{-(-14)}{2(1)} \\\frac{14}{2} \\7

Now we have 7 as our x value for the vertex we can substitute for y,

x^{2} -14x+40=y\\(7)^{2} -14(7)+40=y\\49-98+4=y\\y=-9

So the vertex for 1 is (7,-9)

To find the intercepts for 2 & 3, they basically already give it to you. You just need to find a value for x for x-4 that will equal it to 0 and another for x for x-10 that will equal it to 0.

x-4=0\\x=4\\\\x-10=0\\x=10

4 is slightly different but start the same,

(x-3)(x+3)\\x^{2}+3x-3x-9\\x^{2}-9

Here, c (9) just shows the graph move down 9, so the y intercept = 9.

5 is the same process as 1,

2(x-3)(x+5)\\2(x^{2}+5x-3x-15)\\2(x^{2}+2x-15)\\2x^{2}+4x-30

Vertex,

\frac{-(4)}{2(2)} \\\frac{-4}{4} \\-1

Substitute,

2x^{2}+4x-30\\2(-1)^{2}+4(-1)-30\\2-4-30\\-32

So the vertex is (-1,-32)

rosijanka [135]
Ok so you put I = 250 x .0285 x 3 and it gives you 21,375 then you add 21,375 with 250 and it gives you 21,625 that world be your answer

A police officer claims that the proportion of accidents that occur in the daytime (versus nighttime) at a certain intersection
Roman55 [17]

Answer: -1.78

Step-by-step explanation:

As per given description, we have

Population proportion : p=0.35

Sample size : n= 500

Sample proportion : \hat{p}=\dfrac{156}{500}=0.312

Test statistic for population proportion :-

z=\dfrac{\hat{p}-p}{\sqrt{\dfrac{p(1-p)}{n}}}\\\\\\=\dfrac{0.312-0.35}{\sqrt{\dfrac{0.35(1-0.35)}{500}}}\\\\=-1.78146747757\ \ \text{(Simplified)}\\\\\approx-1.78

Hence, the test statistic for this hypothesis test for a proportion= -1.78

Calculate the midpoint of the line segments joining the two points (-8, -7) and (4,9)
dmitriy555 [2]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the midpoint, you need to plug in the values of x and y into the midpoint formula.

M ( x1 + x2/2 , y1 + y2/2)

M [ -8 + 4/2 , -7 + 9/2]

M ( -2, 1)
