In developing countries of South America, one of the major causes of deforestation is the need of land for agricultural purposes. The poor economy force people to look after agriculture to meet their needs. Farmers cut down acres of land of trees and burn the stump to release the nutrients.  

Crops harvested are used for food supply and sold in markets to earn some money. The process is repeated since farmers look for nutrients rich land. In the absence of trees, the soil loses nutrients in 3-4 years decreasing crop harvest. Therefore, farmers are forced to look for different farming land which increases the deforestation.
