From his research on elephants, Steven Blake learned that elephants have a significant role in enhancing the biodiversity of the

ir habitats. For one, they help in seed dispersal throughout the forest as they deposit the seeds of fruit they eat, with a generous helping of fertilizer. Elephants also order the physical structure of the forest by trampling woody vegetation and opening up the habitat in ways that facilitate diverse plant growth and keep the ecosystem healthy. Such an outsize role by one species that impacts its community in such a dramatic fashion suggests that elephants are a(n)

Answer:

Keystone species

Explanation:

A keystone species is the one that affects the structure and function of the community irrespective of its small population size. The keystone species is not the most abundant species of the community but occupies an ecological niche that regulates and maintains the structure and function of the rest of the community.

Elephants serve in the dispersal of seeds, make new habitats for various plant species by crushing the woody plants with their feet. Since elephants are shown to regulate the species richness by making space for new species and seed dispersal, they are the keystone species.

hichkok12 [17]

Answer:

a.  occurs right before the best growing season

Explanation:

Seed dormancy prevents seeds from germinating in unsuitable conditions such as competing for light and water with other plants or being able to be eaten from a high population of herbivores species during certain seasons.

If a dormant seed is broken after prolonged cold treatment, then this cold part of the year occurs right before the best growing season for this dormant seed. The native habitat of the plant must have an undetermined and cold season that breaks seed dormancy.

Cell division is necessary for many life roles. It is needed for prokaryotes and single-celled eukaryotes to reproduce. Multicel
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

The mitotic phases alternate with interphase in the cell cycle. In interphase, the G1 phase occurs first where the cell grows while carrying out cell functions unique to its cell type. Then the S phase takes place where the cell duplicates its chromosomes. Next is the G2 phase, just before mitosis where the cell continues to grow and carry out its functions. After interphase, mitosis occurs, the first phase in mitosis is prophase where the chromatin becomes tightly coiled and the nucleoli disappear. Next is prometaphase where the nuclear envelope begins to fragment, and the two chromatids of each chromosome are held together by the centromere. After prometaphase is metaphase during which the microtubules and move the chromosomes to the metaphase plate at the equator of the cell. Next is anaphase where the sister chromatids separate. After anaphase, telophase occurs where the nuclear envelopes reform around the set of chromosomes located at opposite ends of the cell. Cytokinesis also occurs which is the division of the cytoplasm.

Where sugar concentration is high, what is the source of water taken in by phloem
Amanda [17]
Let's start with the fact the the phloem of a plant is a special tissue that mainly transports food sources for the plant. one of the products it transports is various sugars - more commonly known as sap. the higher the concentration of sugars, the lower the concentration of water. in that case, the plant slows down on sugar making as it has a surplus, and once the sugars dilute within the sap and water's been taken in, the plant goes back to sugar making.
