The first wave of the feminist movement was a quest for the right to vote. Women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony devoted their lives to achieving this goal for women. They wrote and delivered speech after speech on suffrage, but neither would see the day when the vote was given to women.
