Alcohol is a CNS depressant; it can depress the activities of the Central Nervous system, which can lead to impairment such as uncontrolled movement, inability to think fast or react quickly, disturbing feelings and slurred speech.

Alcohol can affect a person’s ability to think perfectly and also leads to death. Anyone that drinks alcohol excessively and rapidly, such a person's central nervous system will be depressed and could lead to respiratory coma or death.

  • Once it gets to the brain, it will release some chemicals classified as feel goods chemicals such as serotonin
  • It also causes the release of GABA, which produces a feeling of calmness. The GABA is also responsible for the depression of the central nervous system which affects breathing and heart rate.

Alcohol also reduces the release of glutamate. The reduction in the release of glutamate will result in memory loss and greatly weakened the brain functions.
