The Dutch and French approach to colonization were much different than English efforts. One area where this is evident is each groups relationship with Native American groups. The English consistently struggled with developing positive relationships with Natives, as the first permanent English settlement (Jamestown) saw constant fighting between the English and Powahatan Confederacy.
