Alex73 [517]

We have been given that to determine the number of deer in a game preserve, a conservationist catches 594 deer, tags them and lets them loose. Later, 748 deer are caught; 187 of them are tagged. We are asked to find the number of deer in the preserve.

We will use proportions to solve our given problem.

\frac{\text{Total deer population}}{\text{Caught deer population}}=\frac{\text{Caught deer}}{\text{Tagged deer}}

\frac{\text{Total deer population}}{594}=\frac{748}{187}

\frac{\text{Total deer population}}{594}\times 594=\frac{748}{187}\times 594

\text{Total deer population}=4\times 594

\text{Total deer population}=2376

Therefore, there are 2376 deer in the preserve.

An employee is paid $11.25 per hour for the first 40 hours and $16 for each additional hour. During the first week on the job, t
Evgesh-ka [11]
Hi DeidreFauscett965,

To solve this problem first you have to figure out how much the employee earned during the first 40 hours. You do this by multiplying $11.25 by 40.

To multiply decimals you multiply regularly, ignoring the decimal points.
  11.25 x 40 = 45000

Then, add the decimal points by looking at how many decimal points your original numbers had combined, which was two from 11.25, so:

11.25 x 40 = 450.00

So the employee earned $450 during the first 40 hours. Now, you have to subtract $450 from $622 to see how much they earned in overtime.

622-450 = $172 earned in overtime

To figure out how many hours they worked in overtime you have to divide $172 by $16 because that is what they were paid for each overtime hour.

172 / 16 = 10.75 (image attached)

So the employee worked 10.75 overtime hours.

Given: g(x) = x - 4 and h(x) = 2x - 8,
kvasek [131]
Plug in 10 for x in h(x) then simplify
h(10)=2(10)-8
h(10)=20-8
h(10)=12

h(10) is 12 so put 12 in for g(x)
g(h(10))=12-4
g(h(10))=8

Here’s everything together
g(h(10))=(2(10)-8)-4
=(20-8)-4
=(12)-4
=8

This is what I’ve always done. I can’t really tell what your answers are so sorry if this isn’t right at all.
