Hi DeidreFauscett965,

To solve this problem first you have to figure out how much the employee earned during the first 40 hours. You do this by multiplying $11.25 by 40.

To multiply decimals you multiply regularly, ignoring the decimal points.
  11.25 x 40 = 45000

Then, add the decimal points by looking at how many decimal points your original numbers had combined, which was two from 11.25, so:

11.25 x 40 = 450.00

So the employee earned $450 during the first 40 hours. Now, you have to subtract $450 from $622 to see how much they earned in overtime.

622-450 = $172 earned in overtime

To figure out how many hours they worked in overtime you have to divide $172 by $16 because that is what they were paid for each overtime hour.

172 / 16 = 10.75 (image attached)

So the employee worked 10.75 overtime hours.

Answer:

\$68

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Approach

To solve this problem, one wants to find the price of a product after its discount has been applied. The discount is 20% off, so the new price of the item is 80% of its original price (percent is out of 100 so if a an item is 20% off, it is 100 - 20 = 80; 80% the original price). To calculate the percent cost, one would divide the percent value by 100, and then multiply it by the price of the item.

2. Solving

The price of the new item is 80% of the price of the original item.  To calculate the percent cost, cent, one would divide the percent value by 100, and then multiply it by the price of the item.

Therefore, the equation that will be formed is,

price * \frac{percent}{100}

Substitute,

85 * \frac{80}{100}

Simplify,

85 * 0.8\\\\= 68

Pulling out like terms

6.1     Pull out like factors :

  6x3 - 9x  =   3x • (2x2 - 3)

Trying to factor as a Difference of Squares:

6.2      Factoring:  2x2 - 3

Theory : A difference of two perfect squares,  A2 - B2  can be factored into  (A+B) • (A-B)

Proof :  (A+B) • (A-B) =

        A2 - AB + BA - B2 =

        A2 - AB + AB - B2 =

        A2 - B2

Note :  AB = BA is the commutative property of multiplication.

Note :  - AB + AB equals zero and is therefore eliminated from the expression.

Check :  2  is not a square !!

Ruling : Binomial can not be factored as the

difference of two perfect squares

Final result :

 3x • (2x2 - 3)
