Answer:

a) actual tip amount is $17

b)  Total of dinner is $102.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Dinner bill = $85

Tip for server = 20%

a) We need to find the actual tip given to server as it is in percent form.

To find actual tip we will divide the tip given to server in percent with total dinner bill and then multiply it with hundred.

Actual Tip amount  = \frac{20}{100} \times 85 = \frac{1700}{100}\ =\$17

In Calculator first we will put 20 multiplied 85 we get 1700 and then in Calculator we will put 1700 and then divide by 100 we get $17

Hence the actual tip amount is $17.

b) We need to find the total of the dinner.

To find total of the dinner we will add dinner bill with actual amount paid to server.

Total of dinner = Dinner bill + Actual tip amount = $85 + $17 =  $102

In Calculator we will first put the number 85 and then add 17 with it which gives 102

Hence Total of dinner is $102.

José collects stamps. He has 7 used stamps for every 4 new stamps. If he has 28 new stamps, how many used stamps does he have?
jenyasd209 [6]

Answer:

José has 49 used stamps

Step-by-step explanation:

7 used stamps for every 4 new stamps

To solve this type of problem, we can use a ratio

7 : 4 ratio

He has 28 new stamps

7 : 4 = x : 28

Ratios can be written as fractions

\frac{7}{4} = \frac{x}{28}

Cross multiply

4x = 7(28) = 196

Divide by 4 on both sides

x = 49

Hope this helps :)
