As given, let Jim's rate = x

Let Pete's rate =y

Jim completed half the floor in 12 hours so it's 12\times rate= 12x

Pete completed the other half of the floor in 10 hours so its 10\times rate=10y

As floor area is equal so,

12x=10y .............(1)

Now, given is that Pete can lay 25 more tiles per hour than Jim, this gives=

y=x+25 ...... (2)

Putting the value of y from equation (2) in equation (1) , we get

12x=10(x+25)

So, the equation is : 12x=10(x+25)

If you want to solve it, it becomes:

12x=10x+250

2x=250

x=125

Hence, Jim can lay 125 tiles and Pete can lay 25 more so 125+25=150 tiles.

Juli2301 [7.4K]

Answer: The linear system of equations that models this scenario are

T + B = 15

3T + 2B = 38

Step-by-step explanation:

Let T represent the number of tricycles.

Let B represents the number of bicycles ordered.

The recreation center ordered a total of 15 tricycles and bicycles from a sporting good store. It is expressed as

T + B = 15

A tricycle has three wheels. A bicycle has 2 wheels. The number of wheels for all tricycles and bicycles total 38. The expression would be

3T + 2B = 38
