Why are length x width x height and base x height both correct ways to find volume of a rectangular prism?

Answer

Because the base is equal to the area, (L*W). So essentially, they are the same equation!

Explanation:

We normally find the area when dealing with two-dimensional shapes, correct? So, when the shape becomes 3-dimensional, it now includes a base and a height! You multiply these together to get the volume (the amount of space it takes up).

If we were to add a height to a regular rectangle, what was once the entire shape, now becomes the base of a rectangular prism! The length and the width of that prism is equal to the base, which makes both equations equal to each other!

Sally is planning a trip for 225 students
Gala2k [10]

Answer: 75 students.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the data set we have a total of 10 + 8 + 7 + 5 = 30 students.

of those, 10 want to go to the park, the percentage is:

(10/30)*100% = 33.3%

Then, out of the 225, we can expect that a 33.3% (or 0.333 in decimal form) want to go to the park, this is:

N = 225*0.333% = 74.925

We can roud it up, and get N = 75

So Sally can expect that 75 students want to go to the park

Orchid wants to retile her bathroom floor, which has an area of 40 square feet. She is deciding between two types of custom tile
Gre4nikov [31]

Your answer is the second option, she should choose the rectangular tiles because the total cost will be $8 less.

To find this answer we need to first find the total cost for using square tiles, and the cost for using rectangular tiles, and compare them. We can do this by finding the area of each tile individually, calculating how many tiles we would need, and multiplying this by the cost for one tile:

Square tiles:

The area of one square tile is 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/4 ft. Therefore we need 40 ÷ 1/4 = 160 tiles. If each tile costs $0.45, this means the total cost will be $0.45 × 160 = $72

Rectangular tiles:

The area of one rectangular tile is 2 × 1/4 = 2/4 = 1/2 ft. Thus we need 40 ÷ 1/2 = 80 tiles. Each tile costs $0.80, so the total cost will be 80 × $0.80 = $64.

This shows us that the rectangular tiles will be cheaper by $8.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions :)
