X = amount of the 25% copper alloy
y = amount of the 60% copper alloy
amounts are in kilograms

------------------------------------------------

The first equation is
x+y = 90
because the two alloy amounts (x and y) must combine to a total of 90 kg
We can solve for y to get
y = 90 - x

------------------------------------------------

Now onto the second equation.
x kg of the 25% alloy ---> 0.25*x kg of pure copper
y kg of the 60% alloy ---> 0.60*y kg of pure copper
In total, we have 0.25*x+0.60*y kilograms of pure copper
This is equal to 90*0.46 = 41.4 because the total amount of 90 kg alloy will have 46% copper
In short, the second equation is 0.25*x+0.60*y = 41.4

------------------------------------------------

Use the two equations (0.25*x+0.60*y = 41.4 and y = 90-x) to find x
I'm going to use substitution to plug in y = 90-x into the second equation

0.25*x+0.60*y = 41.4
0.25*x+0.60*( y ) = 41.4
0.25*x+0.60*( 90 - x ) = 41.4 <<<--- y has been replaced with 90-x
0.25*x+0.60*90 - 0.60*x = 41.4
0.25*x+54-0.60*x = 41.4
-0.35*x+54 = 41.4
-0.35*x = 41.4-54
-0.35*x = -12.6
x = -12.6/(-0.35)
x = 36

------------------------------------------------

If x = 36, then y is...
y = 90-x
y = 90-36
y = 54

------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------

In summary, we have
x = 36
y = 54
which means there are 36 kg of the 25% alloy
and 54 kg of the 60% alloy

Enter an equation in point-slope form for the perpendicular bisector of the segment with endpoints (−3, 7) and (1, −5).
Gelneren [198K]
First find the slope of the line segment joining the points.
Slope = ((-5)-7)/(1-(-3)) = -3

The slope of any perpendicular to the line is 1/3

Find the midpoint of the line segment by taking the average of the coordinates.
x-coord of midpoint = (-3+1)/2 = -1
y-coord of midpoint = (7-5)/2 = 1
Midpoint : (-1,1)

Point-slope equation for line of slope 1/3 that passes through (-1,1):
y-1 = (1/3)(x+1)

A participant in a 21-mile walkathon walks at a steady rate of 3 per hours. He thinks, "the relationship between the number of m
Gnom [1K]

Answer:

Yes. I agree with his claim because the equation relating the miles left to walk and the number of miles left to walk is : y=-3t+21

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

 • It's a 21 - mile walkathon
 • The rate at which he is moving is 3 miles per hour.

Let the number of miles walked be x ;

∴,

The number of miles 'y' left to walk will be : y=21-x

Thus the time 't' for which he walked :

t=\frac{distance}{speed} \\t=\frac{x}{3}:

∴

From these equations , we get :

x=21-y\\x=3t\\21-y=3t\\y=21-3t

Thus , when we compare this with y=mx+c ,

y=mx+c\\y=-3t+21\\m=-3,c=21

Thus this is an equation of a Line with slope -3.

Brian borrowed $22,000 to buy a car. The rate of interest was 9.5% and the length of time was 5 years. What will be Brian's tota
larisa86 [58]

Answer:

Compound interest

$34633.25

Step-by-step explanation:

Everything starts of at 100% and the rate of interest is 9.5% so we add them on=109.5%

Now we want this percentage as a decimal so we divide by 100 = 1.095 this our multiplier

Then get the original amount that you borrowed = 6000 times by the multipler=1.095 to the power of number of years so

6000 multipled by 1.095 to the power of 5

Giving me $34633.25
