Answer:

The speed of current is 7 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The distance cover by boat in downstream = D = 147 miles

The distance cover by boat in upstream = d = 147 miles

The time taken in downstream trip = T = 7 hours

The time taken in upstream trip = t = 21 hours

Let The speed of boat in still water = x mi/h

And The speed of current  = y mi/h

The speed in downstream = S = (x + y) mi/h

The speed in upstream = s = (x - y) mi/h

<u>Now, According to question</u>

∵ Distance = speed × time

<u>For downstream</u>

D = S × T

Or, 147 miles = (x + y) mi/h × 7 hours

i.e 7 (x + y) = 147

Or, x + y = \dfrac{147}{7}

∴  x + y = 21              ........A

<u>For upstream</u>

d = s × t

Or, 147 miles = (x - y) mi/h × 21 hours

i.e 21 (x - y) = 147

Or, x - y = \dfrac{147}{21}

∴ x - y = 7                  .......B

Now, Solving equations A and B

So, (x + y) + (x - y) = 21 + 7

Or, (x + x) + (y - y) = 28

Or, 2 x + 0 = 28

∴  x = \dfrac{28}{2}

i.e x = 14 miles per hour

The speed of boat in still water = x = 14 mi/h

Now, putting the value of x into eq B

So, y = x - 7

Or, y = 14 - 7

i.e  y = 7 miles per hour

The speed of current = y = 7 mi/h

Hence, The speed of current is 7 miles per hour  . Answer

In a random sample of 380 cars driven at low altitudes, 42 of them exceeded a standard of 10 grams of particulate pollution per
alexdok [17]

Answer:

The test statistic for testing if the proportion of high-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard is greater than the proportion of low-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard is 3.234.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that in a random sample of 380 cars driven at low altitudes, 42 of them exceeded a standard of 10 grams of particulate pollution per gallon of fuel consumed.

In an independent random sample of 90 cars driven at high altitudes, 24 of them exceeded the standard.

Let p_1 = <u><em>population proportion of cars driven at high altitudes who exceeded a standard of 10 grams</em></u>.

p_2 = <u><em>population proportion of cars driven at low altitudes who exceeded a standard of 10 grams</em></u>.

So, Null Hypothesis, H_0 : p_1\leq p_2      {means that the proportion of high-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard is smaller than or equal to the proportion of low-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard}

Alternate Hypothesis, H_A : p_1>p_2      {means that the proportion of high-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard is greater than the proportion of low-altitude vehicles exceeding the standard}

The test statistics that will be used here is <u>Two-sample z-test statistics</u> for proportions;

                             T.S.  =  \frac{(\hat p_1-\hat p_2)-(p_1-p_2)}{\sqrt{\frac{\hat p_1(1-\hat p_1)}{n_1}+\frac{\hat p_2(1-\hat p_2)}{n_2} } }  ~  N(0,1)

where, \hat p_1 = sample proportion of cars driven at high altitudes who exceeded a standard of 10 grams = \frac{24}{90} = 0.27

\hat p_2 = sample proportion of cars driven at low altitudes who exceeded a standard of 10 grams = \frac{42}{380} = 0.11

n_1 = sample of cars driven at high altitudes = 90

n_2 = sample of cars driven at low altitudes = 380

So, the test statistics =  \frac{(0.27-0.11)-(0)}{\sqrt{\frac{0.27(1-0.27)}{90}+\frac{0.11(1-0.11)}{380} } }

                                   =  3.234

The value of z-test statistics is 3.234.

How does the decimal point move when you rewrite a percent as a decimal and when you rewrite a decimal as a percent?
il63 [147K]
Here is an example

0.40,what you do is if it is a decimal you move it to the right twice,until you get 40%,remove the 0 and you have a percent.To move a percent to a decimal,4% you go left twice such as 0.40,and then you are left with 40%

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough but that is my understanding of it.Have a great day.

Answer:

  80 square units

Step-by-step explanation:

The area formula refers to a generic triangle ABC in which side lengths 'a' and 'b' are known and angle C is between those sides.

In the given figure, we have known side lengths of 12 and 14, and the angle between them is 72°.

Putting these numbers into the formula, we find the area to be ...

  A = (1/2)(12)(14)sin(72°) ≈ 79.9 ≈ 80 . . . . square units

The area of the triangle is about 80 square units.
