Answer: 51 uinits

The three numbers are x , x + 21 and x + 27.
The greatest of the 3 numbers is x + 27, so x + 27 has to be the hypotenuse.

----------------------------------------------
Pythagoras Theorem
----------------------------------------------

a² + b²  = c²

x² + (x+21)² = (x+27)²

x² + x² + 42x + 441 = x² + 54x + 729

x² - 12x -288 = 0

(x - 24)(x + 12) = 0

x = 24 or x = -12 (rejected, length cannot be negative)

----------------------------------------------
Find hypotenuse
----------------------------------------------
 Hypotenuse = x + 27 = 24 + 27 = 51 units

-----------------------------------------------
Answer: 51 units

Hypotonuse is the longest side

pythagorean theorem tells us that if the lengths of the legs of a right triangle are a and b and the hyptonuse is c then a^2+b^2=c^2

we can see that x+27 is bigger than the other 2 numbers so x+27 must be the length of the hyptonuse

therefor
(x)^2+(x+21)^2=(x+27)^2
expand
x^2+x^2+42x+441=x^2+54x+729
add like terms
2x^2+42x+441=x^2+54x+729
subtract x^2+54x+729 from both sides
x^2-12x-288=0
solve, use quadratic formula
for ax^2+bx+c=0, x=\frac{-b+/-\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}
so for x^2-12x-288=0, a=1, b=-12, c=-288
subsituting
x=\frac{-(-12)+/-\sqrt{(-12)^2-4(1)(-288)}}{2(1)}
x=6+/-18
x=-12 or 24
x can't be negative since we can't have a negative side ength

x=24

x+27 is hypotonuse
x+27=24+27=51

the hypotonuse is 51 units long

One half of 780 fans stood and cheered.how many fans stood and cheered?what percent of the fans stood and cheered?
Liula [17]
390 fans cheered because 780 divided by 2 is 390

the percent is 50% because one half is equal to 50%(take 100 for example)

Ricks family traveled 5/7 of the distance to his grandmother's house on saturday. They traveled 1/2 of the remaining distance on
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]

Answer:

On Sunday they traveled=1/7 of the total distance

Step-by-step explanation:

Total distance to be traveled=x

On Saturday they covered=(5/7)x

Remaining distance=x-(5/7)x=(2/7)x

Sunday=1/2 of the remaining distance=(1/2)×(2/7)x=(1/7)x

On Sunday they traveled=1/7 of the total distance(x)

What is the y-value of the vertex of the function f(x)=-(x-3)(x+11)
lutik1710 [3]

so, this is a quadratic equation, meaning two solutions, and we have a factored form of it, meaning you can get the solutions by simply zeroing out the f(x).

\bf \stackrel{f(x)}{0}=-(x-3)(x+11)\implies 0=(x-3)(x+11)\implies x= \begin{cases} 3\\ -11 \end{cases} \\\\\\ \boxed{-11}\stackrel{\textit{\large 7 units}}{\rule[0.35em]{10em}{0.25pt}}-4\stackrel{\textit{\large 7 units}}{\rule[0.35em]{10em}{0.25pt}}\boxed{3}

so the zeros/solutions are at x = 3 and x = -11, now, bearing in mind the vertex will be half-way between those two, checking the number line, that midpoint will be at x = -4, so the vertex is right there, well, what's f(x) when x = -4?

\bf f(-4)=-(-4-3)(-4+11)\implies f(-4)=7(7)\implies f(-4)=49 \\\\[-0.35em] \rule{34em}{0.25pt}\\\\ ~\hfill \stackrel{vertex}{(-4~~,~~49)}~\hfill

Is 6/12 greater than 8/12
Sav [38]
\frac{6}{12} is less than \frac{8}{12}. This is because 6/12 and 8/12 already have the same denominators, so we don't need to change em. Now lets look at the numerators:-

6 & 8

Now we will compare these

6 is less than 8

So, 6/12 is less than 8/12.

Hope i helped ya!!
