Which statement is a likely interpretation of Williams's use of the word "unsignificantly" in his poem?
GarryVolchara [31]
<span>"Unsignificantly" in William Carlos Williams's poem "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" is meant to indicate the relative prominence of the mythological event. Rather than portraying the fall of Icarus as the main focus of the painting, artist Pieter Brueghel places it in the background, a place of relative unimportance. The significance here is that the world continues on with mundane, everyday events even while extraordinary things occur. Williams uses the term "unsignificantly" to acknowledge the deliberate choice of depicting the death of Icarus in an mundane and rather unremarkable way.</span>

Write your theme-based summary of "Keep Watch" by Alex Myers
castortr0y [4]

Based on the summary of "Keep Watch" by Alex Myers I can deduce that the literary theme is

  • Coming of Age

In this story by Alex Myers, we learn of a mother who always went against the guidelines of the city she was living in by burning leaves without a permit. The first son of the woman at a point could no longer stand the embarrassment of his mother being questioned on whether she obtained a permit before burning. Believing that he was now of age and could question his mother, he went to the fire tower where it was believed that a lone watcher observed the city for signs of smoke.

To his greatest disappointment, he saw no one there. This means that his mother was right when she said that no one was really observing for smoke, rather, the neighbors were telling on them. This proves the insight of elderly people who most times know more than younger people.
