A map's legend, or key, helps the reader?

History

Yes, a map's legend/key helps the reader determine what symbols or images represent on a map.  For example, if there was a brown line going a cross a river on a map, a legend/key would help the reader figure out that that symbol is a bridge.

Hope this helps! :)
