Mathematics

Hey! So, an outlier is just a number that is in a data set, but is set farther out from the other number.

So, in this case, your outlier would be 34 because it is not clumped together like the other numbers.

40 would not be your answer because it is NOT part of the data set / box-and-whisker-plot.

Notice how 40 is NOT connected to the series of lines within the box-and-whisker-plot. Because of that, it is NOT part of it.

So, once again, 34 is your outlier.

Solve equation using substitution method
4(x-1)-3x=2
NikAS [45]

Answer:

x = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Write equation

4(x - 1) - 3x = 2

Step 2: Solve for x

 1. Distribute 4: 4x - 4 - 3x = 2
 2. Combine like terms: x - 4 = 2
 3. Add 4 to both sides: x = 6

Step 3: Check

Plug in x to verify it's a solution.

4(6 - 1) - 3(6) = 2

4(5) - 18 = 2

20 - 18 = 2

2 = 2

Identify the roots of -3x^3-21x^2+72x+540=0State the multiplicity of each root.
Kryger [21]
It took me awhile, but using the Rational Root Theorem and then synthetic division I got the first root. If you don't know the RRT you'll be in heaps of trouble doing this type of problem. I found the first root to be (x+6), then I did it again and got another root of (x+6) and the third one was (x-5). So the roots of this polynomial (and there are 3 because this is a 3rd degree polynomial) are (x+6) with a multiplicity of 2, and (x-5).
