The capital of the South Vietnam was Saigon. It was the seat of the American-friendly South Vietnamese government.  It was the last city to fall in the hands of the communist North Vietnamese army and the Viet Cong guerrilla on April 30, 1975. The images of the fall of Saigon are the symbol of the end of the Vietnam War. By then, most American troops had been withdrawn from the Southeast Asian country.
