Like adults, the child athlete requires sufficient nutrition to sustain health and to optimize performance. Unlike adults, the nutrition for youngsters must offer for development and physical development.

At the time of various athletic activities, children utilize more energy per weight of the body in comparison to the adults. Thus, the adult-based estimated energy expenditure in any form of the sport may underestimate the real requirements of children.

Generally, a sedentary male child in the age range of 9 to 13 requires 1800 calories per day for normal activities, while an active child of the same age group needs calories in the range of 2000 and above to maintain his activities. Thus, in the given case, Ryder needs to consume a minimum of 200 calories extra to maintain his active lifestyle.

The answer is: 200kcal

Physical activities will cause the muscle to burn more calorie. A child that more physically active would need more calorie to supply the energy need of the muscle. Ryder participate in many physical activities most of the days of the week, so the physical activities would be around moderate to very active. The upper limit of calorie addition for moderately active child would be 200kcal.
