Yes what you are supposed to do to get the correct awnser is multiply the whole number which in this case is 5 by the denominator which in this case is 8 and then multiply 8 x 5 which equals 40 and the add 40 plus the numerator with in this case is 7 and then add 40 plus 7 to get your awnser of 47/8 or as a mixed number 5 7/8
