Basically you just do the opposite of whatever is being done to x. So, first, you would ADD 7 to both sides to cancel it out from the side where x is. Remember: the goal is to isolate x. So, add 7, and you have:
3x - 7 + 7 > 2 + 7
Note that -7 + 7 = 0. So, we have successfully cancelled out that term. Then, just do the rest of addition:
3x > 9
Then, the the 3 is being multiplied to x, and you want to get rid of it on that side. So, you do the opposite of multiplication, which is division. You can divide the inequality by 3 on both sides to get:
3x / 3 = 9 / 3 or: x = 3.
Note that 3x / 3 is equal to 1x or just x. Here we want that 1 to not get rid of x, because we want to find the value of x.
