A scale model of a tower is 24 inches tall and 18 inches wide. If the height of the actual tower is 60 feet, what is its width?
alex41 [277]

Answer:

45 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the width of the model, we need to find the scale of the model to the actual tower.

Since we know the height of both towers, we can use that as the basis.

24 inches : 60 feet

12 inches : 30 feet

6 inches : 15 feet

So the width of the tower is 18 inches wide.

18 inches will then be equal to 12 + 7 inches : 30 + 15 feet

18 inches : 45 feet

Explain how estimation helps you place the decimal point when multiplying 3.9 &5.3
kow [346]
3.9 and 5.3, when rounded off and mult. together, produce the product 20.
Thus, the decimal point must follow the first two digits of your answer, whether estimate or "exact."

3.9*5.3 = 20.67 by calculator.

How would you draw a counterexample to this?
NeX [460]
Melanie said:
Every angle bisector in a triangle bisects the opposite side perpendicularly.

A 'counterexample' would show an angle bisector in a triangle that DOESN'T
bisect the opposite side perpendicularly.

See my attached drawing of a counterexample.

Both of the triangles that Melanie examined have equal sides on both sides
of the angle bisector.  That's the only way that the angle bisector can bisect
the opposite side perpendicularly.  Melanie didn't examine enough different
triangles.
