They felt that the nation needed to find new sources of overseas markets to maintain the strength of their economy. Due to a cycle of over-production and under-consumption led to a large surplus that affected their economy so they eyed potential markets overseas where they can sell their products and find more business opportunities.

I believe the answer is:  Sociologists continue to test Weber's theory. 

Weber argued that religion taught our society on the way of order and law that must be honoured among woman (for example, almost all religion banned its followers from hurting and murdering each other)
This become the foundation of a modern society where people must follow strict regulations in order to interact with one another.
