If the principle of segregation was incorrect, what would Mendel's cross of two heterozygous individuals (for seed shape) yield?

Answer:

The options are missing, the options are:

(a) the ratio of round to wrinkled would have been unpredictable and change each generation

(b) all of the seeds would have displayed the dominant trait, round

(c) it would have yielded the same results as he originally saw

(d) an inversed 3:1 ratio, wrinkled:round

(e) no offspring would have been produced, so there would be no ratio

The correct answer is A

Explanation:

Mendel proposed that alleles of a gene separates into gametes during gamete formation. He called this Law of Segregation. He also stated that in an heterozygous organism, each different allele separates into gamete will equal frequency. He was able to predict the phenotypic ratio of 3:1 for the F2 generation using this principle and it proved right.

If his principle of segregation were false, it would have been impossible to predict the phenotypic outcome of the offsprings i.e. in what proportion each trait will occur. This unpredictability would have changed the ratio of the offsprings in each generation. For example, in the case of seed shape gene, if the round and wrinked alleles didn't separate in equal frequencies, it would be impossible to come up with a prediction of 3:1 ratio of round to wrinked seeds.

gtnhenbr [62]
Let me help you... Okay, so, since the plant breathes only Carbon Dioxide, we can infer that that is a vital element in photosynthesis, which allows the plant to create sugars, or food, for itself. Without any air to breathe, the plant would first, sufficate, and second, no sugars will be created.

Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

Women who carry one copy of the mutated gene still have normal color vision because they have another copy, which is not mutated, in the other X chromosome that will be the dominant one. As a result, the women are carriers of the mutated gene but not color blind.

Explanation:

Colorblindness is a sex-linked mutation. A woman has two X chromosomes, while a man has one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. The mutated gene that causes color blindness is on the X chromosome, and it is OPN1LW. So if a woman has one mutated OPN1LW in one of her two X chromosomes, the OPN1LW gene in the other X chromosome will be the dominant one stopping the woman from being colorblind.

In the case of men, as they only have one X chromosome, if there is a mutation on the OPN1LW in the X chromosome, the men will be colorblind because there is no extra copy of the gene, as it is in women.

Organisms that live in the rainforest have developed unique adaptations that aid in their survival. Which adaptation would most
stealth61 [152]

Answer:

Your answer is most probably A). B) implies that nuts are the only thing for birds to eat in a rainforest, which doesn't make sense, C) implies that the insects would need a widely-varied diet to survive, but again there's an abundance of things that a hungry bug can eat, so they don't need a wide dietary coverage, D) suggests that there may be droughts in the area for which the plant may need to be prepared, but in the RAINforest droughts are uncommon.
