Which of the following is a factor that determines the rate of impulse propagation, or conduction velocity, along an axon?a) len
Alexxx [7]

Answer:

c) degree of myelination of the axon

Explanation:

Axon conduction velocity can be defined as the speed at which an electrochemical impulse propagates down an axon.

Factors that determines the rate of conduction velocity are:

  • axon diameter-larger diameter axons have a higher conduction velocity
  • sheeth-a myelin sheath increases the rate of impulse propagatio

Different types of neurons will have different speed of propagation because of their different properties and because different types of information are sent.

The below picture shows the food web of the American prairie. What could happen if all of the prairie dogs died? Provide a detai
Aleks [24]

Answer:

Dogs shown in this picture belongs to the secondary consumer trophic level which consumes primary consumer herbivores. These primary consumer herbivores are dependent on grass for food which is a primary producer. If all dogs die, the population of primary consumer herbivores will increase. This increase will lead to decrease in grass at a drastic rate. Therefore, primary producers (grass) will be affected.

What happens during the lytic cycle of a viral infection?
bazaltina [42]

Answer:

D. The virus uses the host cell to make new viral parts.

Explanation:

The virus is an organism that is incapable of replicating on its own without a living host cell. It needs to infect a living cell in order to reproduce. The infection cycle of a virus is the replication cycle. Viruses employ two major infection cycles: LYTIC or LYSOGENIC cycles.

In the lytic cycle, the virus initially attaches to specific receptor sites on the host cell membrane. It then penetrates the host cell and incorporate its genetic material into the host cell's genome. It employs the host's ability to express its genes and replicate to express its genes and make new proteins. At the end of the LYTIC cycle, new viral particles (virions) are produced and released by lysis of the host cell.
