Make them have a common denominator.
Ex: 2/3 + 1/2
The lowest common multiple of the denominators 3 (3,6..) and 2 (2, 4, 6..) is 6. Multiply each fraction by whatever you had to multiple it by to get the common multiple.
2(2/3) + 3(1/2)
4/6 + 3/6 = 7/6 or 1 1/6 (mixed fraction)

You multiply by common factors. For example, 4/8 + 3/4:

We can multiply 3/4 by 2/2 so that 4 becomes 8, so we get:

4/8 + 3/4(2/2) or 4/8 + 6/8 = 10/8

Ne4ueva [31]

If you are mowing a section of a lawn but want to make sure you only mow so much. Say half of a square lawn, if you know that the 2 sides of the fence are each 20 yards in length, you can apply the formula to find the distance of the diagonal. That way you know exactly how much you have mowed. draw a square, cut a diagonal through it, make the 2 sides labaled as 20 and then its 20 squared plus 20 squared = c squared. Hope this helps!

Mila [183]

Answer: Option B

B. \frac{9}{26}

Step-by-step explanation:

We have the following equations:

2x + \frac{4}{3}y = 1       (1)

y -\frac{9}{13}x=9          (2)

Let us call "a" the coefficient of the variable x in the first equation and call "b" the coefficient of the variable x in the second equation.

Then we must multiply the number "a" by a value z such that when adding az + b the result is zero.a = 2

b = -\frac{9}{13}

So

2z-\frac{9}{13} = 0

We solve the equation for z

2z=\frac{9}{13}

z=\frac{9}{26}

The first equation must be multiplied by a value of \frac{9}{26}
