Frida Kahlo was a painter with a lot of inspiration of dreams and the world around her. She has had a rough life including when she almost broke all her bones. The pain stayed with her the rest of her life. This conflicted her in the future. Her painting career has gone a long way. Her portraits and self-portraits are very famous.

Facts:

At age 6, Frida was stricken with polio, which caused her right leg to appear much thinner than the other.  It was to remain that way permanently.

In 1922, Frida entered the best educational institution in Mexico, the National Preparatory School.  It was there she first encountered Diego Rivera, who had been commissioned to pain a mural in the school’s auditorium.

After her death in 1954, Kahlo was regarded as a marginal figure.  Since then, her fame has steadily risen.  In 1977, the first of her pictures was sold at an auction fetched $19,000 but by 1995 a self-portrait brought in $3.2 million, the highest sum ever for a painting made south of the border.

Frida Kahlo was a mexican artist that was known for mixing traditional mexican folk art with surrealism. She painted many self portraits, and also many works about her heritage. Many of Frida's paintings have symbols in them that are used repeatedly. The use of symbols and the theme of identity in her work is what caused many people to consider it surrealism.
