Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

If you plot the focus and the vertex, you see that the focus is on the same vertical line, just 4 units up.  Since the vertex is below the focus and a parabola ALWAYS wraps around the focus, the parabola is a positive y equals x-squared type.  Depending upon what you call standard form will dictate how your answer "looks", although they are both the same parabola.  There are 2 forms:

(x-h)^2=4p(y-k) and

ax^2+bx+c=y

We will work on the first one, then rewrite it into the second one.

Our h value is -5, our k value is 2 (from the vertex (h,k)), and p is defined as the distance between the focus and the vertex.  Our p is 4.  Filling all that in:

(x+5)^2=16(y-2)

That's one form.  If we expand the left side of that form we have

x^2+10x+25=16(y-2)  Now divide both sides by 16 to get

\frac{1}{16}x^2+\frac{5}{8}x+\frac{25}{16}=y-2

Now add 2 to both sides in the form 32/16 to get

\frac{1}{16}x^2+\frac{5}{8}x+\frac{57}{16}=y

They are both the same parabola; pick whichever one fits your needs.

The fish tanks at the Grant Pet Store each hold the same amount of water. Rose used 9 3/5 pitchers of water to fill 6 tanks. How
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

The number of pitchers required to 1 tank is 8/5.

Step-by-step explanation:

Number of tanks filed by 9 3/5 pitchers = 6

So,

6 tanks are filled 48/5 pitchers

1 tank is filled by

\frac{48}{5\times 6}\\\\= \frac{8}{5}

So, the number of pitchers required to 1 tank is 8/5.

Can anyone help me wit this!!
dybincka [34]

Answer:

  • See attachment for table values
  • y₁ = y₂ for x = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

In each case, put the x-value in the formula and do the arithmetic. If you're allowed, you can save some time and effort by realizing that the solution (x) will have to be an even number.

y₁ is an integer value for all integer values of x. y₂ is an integer value for even values of x only. y₁ and y₂ will both be integers (and possibly equal) only when x is even.

For example, for x = 6, we have

... y₁ = 3·6 - 8 = 18 -8 = 10

... y₂ = 0.5·6 +7 = 3 +7 = 10

That is, for x = 6, both columns of the table have the same number (10). That is, y₁ = y₂ for x = 6. The solution to the equation

... y₁ = y₂

is

... x = 6.

Evaluate the function.<br> f(x) = –2x2 – 10.0<br> Find f(-5)<br> Answer:<br> Submit Answer
Wittaler [7]

Answer:

f(-5) = 0

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Define

f(x) = -2x² - 10x

f(-5) is x = -5

Step 2: Substitute and Evaluate

f(-5) = -2(-5)² - 10(-5)

f(-5) = -2(25) + 50

f(-5) = -50 + 50

f(-5) = 0
